Important Design Notes

  • Minimum Flow Rate Rule: The minimum flow rate in a system can never be less than the flow demand of the fixture with the highest individual demand.

  • Compensation Factor: The conversion of 1 WSFU = 1 GPM applies only when sizing for a single fixture or a very small number of fixtures. For larger systems, probability curves or demand tables (shown above) must be used to account for the statistical likelihood that not all fixtures operate simultaneously.

  • Special Equipment: When sizing for special equipment or manifolds, use the demand tables above to determine the required flow rate rather than simple unit conversion.
