Occupancy Rate & Formulas

Occupancy Rate ($R_{occ}$) is the maximum number of persons per unit area.

$$R_{occ} = \frac{1}{A_{min}}$$

Where:

• $R_{occ}$ = Occupancy Rate (persons per ft² or m²)
• $A_{min}$ = Minimum required area per person (ft² or m²)

Example: If the minimum area per person ($A_{min}$) is 100 ft², the occupancy rate is:

$$R_{occ} = \frac{1}{100\ \text{ft}^2} = 0.01\ \text{persons per ft}^2$$

This is equivalent to 10 persons per 1000 ft².
